The Environment They Create – about documentary photography (ENG)

Photo artist Annika Haas talks about her experience as a portraitist and a documentary photographer. She is drawn to portraying people in the environments they create – the tight, closed, yet safe places humans inhabit. The environmental “cocoons” the minority groups dwell in give their inhabitants the distinctive appearance that can be reflected in photography.

Annika Haas is photo editor at the Estonian photo magazine Positiv, and give documentary photography lectures at the Estonian Academy of Art. She has been awarded numerous times, and her documentary work has been published in papers like The New York Times, The Washington Post, Lens Culture Magazine and Live Journal.
